Introduction

For many years, Islamic institutions have served Muslim communities throughout the Chicago area. As the Muslim population steadily grew, especially in the southern suburbs, the need for accessible, community-based Islamic services became increasingly evident. These areas, with fewer locally available resources, highlighted the importance of institutions that could thoughtfully and sustainably serve the needs of their communities, closer to home.

The institution began with humble beginnings, acquiring an abandoned warehouse at 15214 Main Street in Harvey, Illinois, for $85,000. The 17,000 square feet of built space and 19,000 square feet of open land, acquired at an unusually low cost of approximately $2.38 per square foot, provided the foundation for what would become a transformative center for the community. This milestone was achieved through the mercy and grace of Allah (SWT), despite limited resources.

At the time of its inception, two essential services were notably absent in the southern suburbs: Islamic education and Muslim funeral services. In response, a small home-based educational program was launched in 2012, starting with just three students. In parallel, free burial washing services were offered to indigent Muslim families, addressing a critical need within the community.

As the community's needs continued to grow, so did the opportunities to expand. In 2017, a significant acquisition occurred—a 58,000-square-foot property from AT&T for $225,000, followed by the acquisition of the Abraar Academy building. Abraar Academy, later appraised at approximately $7 million, provided a dedicated space to further serve the community.

By the grace of Allah (SWT), our institution has flourished over the years, now serving approximately 25 surrounding suburbs. Today, we offer a full-time Islamic school, a weekend academy, an active community center, a free Muslim funeral facility, and a Muslim cemetery.

We remain committed to our mission of providing essential services to our community, with a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and the values of Islam.
